About The Position

The League of Minnesota Cities (LMC) offers a 12-week Public Administration Internship providing hands-on experience in local government operations, policy, and governance. The undergraduate intern learns about local government and the work of a membership-based organization serving cities throughout Minnesota. The intern works independently and collaboratively on projects involving administration, human resources, member relations, communications, training, and events. This position reports to the Strategic Initiatives Manager. The intern provides administrative and project support; conducts research and compiles information about city practices and issues; reviews systems, procedures, workflows, and management practices and identifies opportunities for improvement; and drafts materials such as memos, guidance documents, manuals, and process documentation. The intern also participates in meetings and professional development activities, delivers presentations as requested, and assists with data entry and document organization. Example projects include researching and presenting Minnesota city best practices, compiling information for a League member resource, drafting memos on community engagement, contributing to manuals on safety-related practices, and documenting internal processes to improve operational efficiency. The position is temporary and non-benefit-eligible, pays an anticipated $26 per hour, and is expected to run from approximately mid-January through mid-April. The intern must be able to work in the office at least two days per week, with scheduling that accounts for class schedules and League business hours, and must be able to travel between work sites and attend off-site events using their own transportation.
