PTC Java Engineer
About The Position
Bright Vision Technologies is seeking an experienced Windchill Java Customization Engineer to develop deep, low-level customizations using Java, PTC APIs, and PTC customization frameworks. The role focuses on extending Windchill behavior through services, listeners, and processors while maintaining a clean, upgrade-friendly customization layer. The successful candidate will bring strong Java fundamentals, familiarity with Windchill internals, and a disciplined, performance-aware engineering approach. The engineer will work with product, design, engineering, operations, business stakeholders, and functional consultants to turn requirements into durable solutions. The role also includes code and design reviews, mentoring engineers, supporting migrations from legacy customizations to PTC-supported patterns, and providing post-go-live support. The position is full-time, direct W2, and 100% remote within the United States. The listed salary range is $100,000–$150,000 annually. Bright Vision Technologies is unable to sponsor new H-1B visa petitions for this position.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- Five or more years of Java development experience, with a strong focus on Windchill customization.
- Deep, hands-on experience with the Windchill Java API and customization frameworks.
- Solid understanding of the Windchill data model, lifecycle, and workflow internals.
- Strong Java object-oriented design and performance-engineering skills.
- Experience with JSP, HTML, and Windchill client-side customization.
- Hands-on experience with Type and Attribute Management (TAM).
- Strong SQL skills and familiarity with Oracle or SQL Server.
- Experience supporting Windchill upgrades.
- Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills.
- Strong communication and engineering discipline.
Nice To Haves
- PTC Windchill development certifications.
- Experience with PTC ThingWorx development.
- Exposure to Windchill RV&S customization.
- Familiarity with CI/CD tooling for Windchill.
- Experience operating Windchill in the cloud.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop advanced Java customizations within Windchill, including custom services, listeners, processors, validators, and helpers.
- Extend the Windchill data model with custom types, attributes, and relationships using Type and Attribute Management (TAM).
- Build custom JSP and HTML extensions, including custom tables, actions, and wizard pages.
- Develop custom queues and background processes for asynchronous Windchill tasks.
- Implement complex workflow expressions and Java robot delegates.
- Optimize Java customization performance through profiling, query tuning, and caching strategies.
- Follow PTC customization best practices and ensure customizations are upgrade-friendly.
- Lead migrations from legacy customizations to modern PTC-supported patterns, including phased cutovers, backward-compatibility shims where needed, and reversible, monitored migration steps.
- Conduct code reviews and uphold internal engineering standards.
- Collaborate with functional consultants to translate complex requirements into clean Java designs.
- Provide post-go-live and hypercare support, triage incidents with operations teams, identify root causes, and drive durable fixes.
- Maintain current technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, design decisions, configuration references, runbooks, and operational procedures.
- Mentor and coach junior and mid-level engineers through reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
