About The Position

This position involves providing tutoring and other support services to students, primarily in Chemistry, at Ivy Tech Community College. The tutor will offer individualized and group tutoring sessions, empowering students to become independent learners across various STEM subjects including remedial and advanced mathematics, chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, accounting, business applications, and other technology fields. Key responsibilities include teaching and assisting students with computer software and web-based applications relevant to their coursework, maintaining tutoring records, and collaborating with instructors regarding student needs and curriculum updates. Ivy Tech is Indiana's only full-fledged community college, dedicated to student empowerment and community strengthening, operating as the largest singly accredited community college system in the nation with over 6,500 employees across 75 locations.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate degree preferred in mathematics, science or related field.
• Computer literacy and knowledge in word processing programs required.
• Possess a working understanding of college level skills needed by students.
• Ability to exercise important human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with college students.
• Strong verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Knows and is able to utilize training provided in tutoring several Ivy Tech Courses.

Responsibilities

• Provides individualized and group tutoring in a manner that empowers students to become independent, successful learners.
• Provides tutoring in Ivy Tech courses with special concentrations in science, technology, and/or math, including remedial mathematics, advanced mathematics, chemistry, biology, anatomy and physiology, accounting, business applications, and other technology fields.
• Teaches and assists students in the use of computer software.
• Guides and instructs students in the use of software programs and/or web-based applications directly related to Ivy Tech coursework.
• Maintains tutoring records for each student.
• Interacts with instructors as to student needs, topics tutored, course changes, and new text book adoptions.
• Other duties logically associated with the position may be assigned.
