About The Position

Provide classroom instruction to students with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) in CFCC’s Adult Basic Education program, STRIDE. Instruction will be delivered through lecture, demonstration, laboratory exercises, handouts, responding to questions, and testing. The instructor must be familiar with the ABE curriculum and assist students in developing employability and post-secondary preparatory skills. This position receives direct supervision from the Special Programs Director and exercises no supervision.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Valid NC driver’s license with a driving record that is within the parameters set by the college.
  • Previous teaching experience.
  • Experience with IDD population.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Prior experience in Adult Education is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom instruction to students in reading, math, computer literacy, and employability skills.
  • Prepare lesson plans and schedule classroom activities.
  • Develop and prepare supplemental materials to enhance textbook lessons.
  • Conduct class field trips to visit employers, CFCC educational programs, and community resources.
  • Drive a school vehicle (non-CDL requiring vehicle) to take the STRIDE students on field trips.
  • Provide classroom instruction using the IDD curriculum.
  • Assist STRIDE Assessment Retention Specialist with identifying and developing career pathway plans for students based on their individual interests and abilities.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance and performance.
  • Oversee the implementation of policies and procedures related to the required teaching area and in accordance with CFCC policies and guidelines.
  • Assess the relevancy and impact of various lessons; revise and improve lesson formats as needed.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
