Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow
About The Position
Georgetown University's Counseling and Psychiatric Service (CAPS) is seeking Psychology Postdoctoral Fellows to provide advanced clinical training for recent doctoral graduates. These positions are crucial for meeting the mental health needs of the student body, extending CAPS' capacity for timely, high-quality care and proactive outreach. The fellow in this specific role is embedded within Athletics and primarily serves student-athletes, providing clinical services, outreach programming, and consultation tailored to their unique experiences. This includes work with individual athletes, teams, coaches, and athletic department staff.
Requirements
- A doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology or a related field, including completion of a predoctoral internship
- Familiarity and skill in one or more of the following areas: mental performance skills coaching, diversity and multicultural issues, eating disorders, substance abuse, LGBTQ issues, and sexual assault trauma
Nice To Haves
- College mental health experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Comprehensive evaluation of students experiencing psychological distress
- Crisis intervention and management, including responding to urgent and life-threatening concerns
- Provision of brief individual counseling and psychotherapy
- Consultation to deans, parents, faculty, coaches, and staff regarding student mental health issues
- Design and delivery of outreach programming to support student athlete well-being and resilience
- Observation of team practices, games, team events as needed
