About The Position

Under direct supervision of the Department Chair and lead direction from the Lab Technician, the student assistant is responsible for preparing clean cages with appropriate bedding materials, operating cage and bottle washers; transferring animals to clean cages and refilling feed and water, empty and dispose of trash, Move heavy cages, racks, equipment, and supplies. Cleaning and sanitizing animal rooms and other areas as required. The student will be responsible for recognizing signs of illness, injuries, parasites, or unusual behavior in animals, or deviations in animal room environment - reporting this information to the Instructional Support Technician. The student will work in conditions that include exposure to animal noise, odors, allergens, body fluids, detergents ,disinfectants and other chemicals, zoonotic diseases , bites, and scratches; and there are weekend and holiday duties, and responsibilities out of normal working hours may be received.

  • Read and write English at a level appropriate to the position
  • Admission or registration as a CSU student
  • Maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. or greater per semester and cumulative
  • Students must be enrolled in at least halftime units at CSUSB (6 units undergraduate; 3 units graduate)
  • International students must have full-time enrollment at CSUSB (12 units undergraduate; 6 units graduate)
  • Eligible to work in the United States
  • Reside in the State of California
  • Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) may be required
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License may be required
  • Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program
  • Hires only individuals lawfully authorized to work in the United States
  • Complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire
  • Completion of Sexual Violence Prevention Training within 6 months of assuming employment and on a two-year basis thereafter
