About The Position

Frontier Behavioral Health (FBH) is a non-profit organization with over 100 years of experience serving the Spokane community. They provide evidence-based treatment for adults, youth, and seniors facing behavioral health challenges. As a Trauma-Informed Care Organization, FBH is dedicated to helping clients lead fulfilling lives. FBH offers a variety of services including outpatient, inpatient, community outreach, and crisis services, with partnerships with schools and law enforcement. They are looking for energetic and self-motivated psychologists to join their team of Court Evaluators. In this role, you will be involved in determining the need for involuntary commitment by conducting record reviews, clinical interviews, collaborating with treatment staff, and providing expert witness testimony. The Staff Psychologist also provides psychological testing, supervises interns/students, and offers direct treatment services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include:

* Conduct diagnostic interviews and records reviews for diagnosis and assessment in outpatient psychological evaluations.
* Administer, score, and interpret assessment measures.
* Prepare written reports detailing patient history, assessment findings, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations.
* Provide feedback on assessment results, diagnoses, and treatment recommendations to clients, providers, and families.
* Perform Civil Commitment evaluations for adult and adolescent involuntary patients at inpatient facilities through record review, consultations, and interviews.
* Contact witnesses for collateral information.
* Collaborate with multi-disciplinary treatment teams on treatment and discharge planning within the civil commitment process.
* Prepare court documents and petitions for involuntary treatment.
* Provide expert witness testimony in civil commitment court cases.
* Complete all required reports, forms, and documentation in a timely and confidential manner.
* This position may require travel within the Spokane Community and necessitates reliable transportation, insurance, and an active driver's license for use of a personal vehicle.

Court Evaluation Process involves:

* Evaluating patients to determine the presence of mental disorder and danger to self, others, property, or grave disability.
* Reviewing past and current records.
* Interviewing patients and assessing medication compliance.
* Reviewing diagnostic procedures and lab work with physicians.
* Collaborating with physicians, social work, and nursing staff.
* Collaborating with Spokane County Deputy Prosecutors on court strategies and testimony.
* Reviewing decisions to dismiss or convert cases to Less Restrictive Orders.
* Completing required legal forms and documentation.
* Presenting testimony on relevant medical records, patient's treatment course, consideration of less restrictive options, and rationale for continued involuntary status.

Requirements

• Doctorate Degree in Psychology or related field.
• Clinical Licensure (or license eligible in Washington State within 6 months of employment).
• Must have an unrestricted and valid driver’s license, active car insurance and must be willing to use their personal vehicle in the course of work.

Nice To Haves

• Three years post licensure experience and psychological testing experience with child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
• Experience in court evaluation or the legal/court system preferred but not required-we are willing to train the right candidate.
• Knowledge of Washington Administrative Codes and statutes pertaining to involuntary treatment, client rights preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Conduct diagnostic interviews and records reviews for the purpose of diagnosis and assessment in the context of outpatient psychological assessment.

• Provide assessment feedback regarding results, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations to client, treatment providers and/or family and medication prescribers.
• Perform Civil Commitment evaluations via records review, consultations, and in-person interviews for adult and adolescent involuntary patients at various inpatient facilities.
• Contact witnesses for collateral information.
• Collaborate with multi-disciplinary treatment teams regarding treatment and discharge planning in the context of the civil commitment process.
• Prepare court documents/petitions for purposes of involuntary treatment.
• Provide expert witness testimony in prospective civil commitment court cases.
• Consistently complete all required reports, forms and documentation related to assigned cases in a timely and confidential manner, in accordance with agency policies and practices.
• Evaluates patients to establish whether there is a presence of mental disorder and a danger to self, others, property or grave disability to adequately care for health and safety needs.
• Reviews available past and current records.
• Interviews patient and reviews the medications prescribed and assesses the patient’s level of cooperation in taking the medications.
• Reviews any diagnostic procedures or lab work performed and discusses with the physician.
• Collaborates with physicians, social work and nursing staff who have been caring for the patient and are familiar with the treatment team’s recommendation.
• Collaborates with the Spokane County Deputy Prosecutors regarding court strategies and testimony.
• Reviews decisions to dismiss or convert cases to Less Restrictive Orders prior to the hearing.
• Completes required legal forms and written documentation of investigation activities.
• Presents testimony on all relevant chart entries in past and current medical records and relevant aspects of the patient’s history.
• Presents testimony on the patient’s course of treatment during the initial detention period that supports the recommendation for further treatment.
• Presents testimony on consideration that was given to less restrictive options and rationale for the necessity of more restrictive treatment.
• Presents testimony on consideration of voluntary hospitalization and rationale for the necessity for continued involuntary status.
• Provide psychological testing services.
• Supervision of interns/practicum students and/or clinicians providing direct individual, family, group treatment services.
