The facility, California State Prison-Corcoran (CSP-Corcoran), is a complex, multi-mission institution with various security levels and specialized units. It includes a Correctional Treatment Center (CTC) with 50 licensed beds, 24 Mental Health Crisis Beds (MHCB), and 14 beds in the Outpatient Housing Unit (OHU). CSP-Corcoran received national accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections in August 2015. The facility is designated as a "basic care" institution by the California Correctional Health Care Services, indicating a generally healthy patient population with the capability to provide specialty medical services.

Requirements

  • Must have a PhD. or PsyD.
  • Graduate from a college or university with a doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology.
  • At least one year of full-time experience in the last three years working as a Psychologist.
  • Must have a full, unrestricted license to practice in the state of California.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses inmates' mental health needs and suggests treatment plans based on their criminal, psychological, and substance abuse histories.
  • Talks with mentally ill inmates to help them during crises, group therapy, or one-on-one meetings, sometimes at their cell fronts.
  • Uses psychological tests to understand inmates better and provide appropriate care.
  • Keeps detailed records of all interactions with inmates and attends team meetings.
  • Monitors inmate progress using Subjective Assessment Plan Evaluation FORMATTED PROGRESS NOTES.
  • Teaches inmates about mental health and creates resources for them, especially those with mental illness or who are sex offenders.
  • Shares patient information with relatives only if they've given permission.
  • Ensures the facility stays safe and orderly, preventing escapes or harm to anyone.
