About The Position

This position will be responsible for conducting or overseeing psychological assessments and psychotherapy interventions aimed at reducing maladaptive behaviors and improving mental wellness in patients. Responsibilities also include evaluating and diagnosing psychological conditions, writing comprehensive psychological reports, and collaborating with other professionals—including social workers, nurses, direct care staff, and educators—to interpret and communicate assessment results. The psychologist will coordinate and manage psychological services across the facility, provide clinical supervision, participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, and contribute to policy development and program evaluation. Public outreach and education, expert court testimony, and consultation with institutional leadership are also expected as part of the position. Success in this role requires a thorough understanding of modern psychological principles and practices, particularly as they relate to testing, diagnostic evaluation, and therapeutic intervention. The psychologist must have deep knowledge of clinical psychology, including the treatment of mental illness and personality disorders, as well as familiarity with rehabilitation strategies, psychotherapeutic techniques, and group processes. The position demands the ability to supervise and coordinate psychology doctoral interns and practicum students effectively, to plan and deliver comprehensive training programs, and to provide clinical guidance and leadership. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills are essential to meet the demands of this multifaceted role.

Requirements

  • A Doctorate Degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience, one year of which may have been an internship.
  • Licensed (or license eligible) as a Psychologist as issued by the Maine State Board of Examiners in Psychology.
  • Thorough understanding of modern psychological principles and practices, particularly as they relate to testing, diagnostic evaluation, and therapeutic intervention.
  • Deep knowledge of clinical psychology, including the treatment of mental illness and personality disorders.
  • Familiarity with rehabilitation strategies, psychotherapeutic techniques, and group processes.
  • Ability to supervise and coordinate psychology doctoral interns and practicum students effectively.
  • Ability to plan and deliver comprehensive training programs.
  • Ability to provide clinical guidance and leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills.
