About The Position

The position for this posting is based at the Coastal Autism Evaluation Office - Coastal Regional Center in Summerville, SC. BHDD-OIDD is a part of the state's behavioral health and developmental disabilities agency, providing services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental health conditions and substance use disorders through a wholistic, streamlined and coordinated approach. OIDD assists in the planning, developing, coordinating, and funding of services for South Carolinians with the severe, lifelong disabilities of intellectual disability and related disabilities; autism spectrum disorder; traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury; and similar disability.

Requirements

  • South Carolina Licensed Psychologist (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) or Developmental Pediatrician with at least two (2) years of specialized experience.
  • A valid SC Driver's License.

Nice To Haves

  • Training and experience with various evaluation and screening measures-cognitive, adaptive, Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), etc.
  • Current working knowledge/understanding of ASD and specific experience, training, and specialization in ASD services.
  • Effective communication skills, verbal and written, and the ability to work cooperatively with families, professionals, and the public.
  • Knowledge of psychological, educational and developmental needs of individuals with ASD.
  • Knowledge of clinical supervision in ASD cases.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures relating to community social service programs.
  • Knowledge of specialized needs in education and treatment for individuals with ASD.
  • Ability to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.
  • Ability to identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community to accomplish individual objectives.
  • Ability to organize and maintain an appointment case load as necessary.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to prepare a comprehensive individual evaluation based on initial interviews, standardized test batteries, follow-up interviews and individualized tests.

Responsibilities

  • Under the general supervision of the Team Lead, complete review of referrals submitted for OIDD Eligibility.
  • Eligibility determination consists of completing/conduct Autism Spectrum Disorder screenings/assessments, diagnostic and cognitive assessments, record reviews, and staffing of cases that are diagnostically complex or challenging.
  • Conducts comprehensive assessments of individuals seeking Autism Spectrum Disorder eligibility (all ages).
  • Conducts record reviews, re-evaluation assessments, appeals, and emergent/crisis evaluations of individuals seeking Autism Spectrum Disorder eligibility.
  • Proactively researches and engages in educational opportunities and skill-building activities to foster personal and professional growth.
  • Participates as a team member and provides back-up assistance to other staff/teams.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
