Patuxent Institution is a maximum-security state prison designed to provide remediation programs and services to male and female incarcerated individuals based upon current best practices. The Psychologist Correctional position is the doctorate, licensed level of professional work. The main purpose of this position is to provide direct psychological services to incarcerated individuals in one or more programs.
Requirements
- A Doctorate degree in psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university accepted by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists.
- Two years of experience rendering psychological services or engaged in psychological research.
- Must be fluent in spoken and written English.
- Must effectively and respectfully communicate with diverse populations, providing services to individuals with different beliefs, behaviors, and interpersonal styles in confinement or community settings.
- Candidates for this classification must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Examiners of Psychologists prior to permanent appointment to a position.
Nice To Haves
- Professional working fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Korean, or any other language is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Conducts risk assessments, diagnostic assessments, and other types of psychological assessments as assigned
- Provides direct psychotherapeutic services to incarcerated individuals to include cognitive-behavioral group psychotherapy, individual therapy, and crisis intervention
- May engage in research-related activities, supervision and training of unlicensed members of the psychology staff, and administrative supervision of other professional and clerical employees
