About The Position

The psychologist will establish and maintain positive, constructive, and effective working relationships with individuals receiving services and their support teams, including family members, friends, advocates, and service providers. Provides clinical assessment and consultation to participants and potential participants in agency programs and services. Provides clinical supervision and oversight to interns and practicum students. Provides clinical consultation to clinicians & support teams across agency settings.

Requirements

  • NYS Licensed or license-eligible psychologist
  • At least 5 years’ experience in the field of developmental disabilities
  • Providing supervision

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough clinical interviews that assess overall functioning (home, school, work), developmental history, presenting problems, family dynamics, trauma, substance use, medical/health concerns, medications prescribed, utilization of social services, strengths, social supports, and previous mental health treatment.
  • Provide psychological assessments to agency participants or potential participants as necessary.
  • Administer, score, and interpret appropriate psychological assessment tools, including cognitive, adaptive, diagnostic, personality, and dementia assessments.
  • Areas of assessment can include but are not limited to individual decision making capacity, eligibility, and differential diagnosis.
  • Provide appropriate therapeutic recommendations to treatment teams based on assessment results.
  • Provide lethality assessments to agency participants as needed and develop appropriate recommendations to ensure safety and address therapeutic needs.
  • Provide risk assessments to agency participants or potential participants, as necessary.
  • Provide clinical oversight to the support team in order to effectively manage risk considerations.
  • Conduct clinical interviews and complete impact statements with agency individuals following allegations of psychological abuse.
  • Provide counseling with agency individuals in-home and in an office setting and actively monitor therapeutic progress.as needed to supplement therapeutic treatment on a short-term basis.
  • Actively participate in providing clinical support to interdisciplinary teams.
  • Participate in agency committees including Human Rights Committee (HRC), as requested.
  • Participate in regular training, pertinent to developmental disabilities and related issues.
  • Provide clinical supervision and oversight to Psychology Pre and Post Doctoral Interns/Fellows, Behavioral Health interns and practicum students as assigned.
  • Provide clinical supervision to Behavioral Intervention Specialists.
  • Review and approve Functional Behavior Assessments, Behavior Support Plans, and Clinical Consultations.
  • Provide consultation to support teams and agency personnel in response to individual or site specific behavioral health and/or decision-making capacity issues and concerns.
  • Assist in the professional development of clinicians working within the behavioral health department by providing continued learning opportunities to clinicians for ongoing skills development.
  • Comply with all agency policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
