About The Position

We are seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Psychiatry Physician to provide comprehensive mental health services at the VA Medical Center and its associated outpatient clinics in Houston, TX. This role involves diagnosing and treating patients with various mental health conditions, developing treatment plans, and ensuring continuity of care. The physician will be responsible for outpatient psychiatric care, including evaluations, consultations, and follow-ups, as well as managing patient admissions, discharges, and transfers. Accurate medical documentation, participation in peer reviews, and quality improvement initiatives are also key aspects of this position. Providers must be present onsite during scheduled clinic hours and comply with all VA credentialing and privileging requirements.

Requirements

• Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State or Territory
• Board Certified / Board Eligible in Psychiatry
• BLS and ACLS certification (current)
• Minimum 3 years of relevant clinical experience
• Technical proficiency in psychiatry clinical care
• Ability to diagnose, treat, and manage mental health conditions
• Strong documentation and EMR skills
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (written and verbal)
• Must be present onsite during scheduled clinic hours
• Must comply with VA credentialing and privileging requirements
• Must maintain current certifications, CME, and licensure throughout contract

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and treat patients with mental health conditions
• Develop and manage treatment plans
• Provide outpatient psychiatric care
• Conduct evaluations, consultations, and follow-ups
• Manage patient admissions, discharges, and transfers
• Maintain accurate medical documentation
• Participate in peer reviews and case evaluations
• Attend quality improvement meetings and administrative duties (~5%)
• See approximately 6–6.5 patient care hours per day
