About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Psychiatrist to join the VCH Eating Disorders Program. This role involves evaluating, diagnosing, and providing state-of-the-art adult outpatient treatment for patients aged 18 and above who have a combination of eating disorders and general psychiatric conditions. The program offers outpatient support and access to treatments for youth and adults with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and related eating disorders, utilizing a client and family-centered recovery model. The successful candidate will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team, including physicians, psychologists, nurses, registered clinical counselors, social workers, and occupational therapists, to provide comprehensive clinical care. The psychiatrist will act as a resource for mental health and addiction issues, with a strong foundation in psychopharmacology and psychotherapy, and will participate in the training and education of other health professionals. Active participation in academic activities and clinical care is expected, along with a good understanding of community resources. The role is part of a cohesive outpatient team at the Joseph & Rosalie Segal Family Health Centre, providing initial psychiatric assessments, consultations, medication reviews, and referrals for group and time-limited individual psychotherapy, all based on the best available evidence and tailored to individual needs.

Requirements

  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) - Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) - Mandatory
  • A Medical Degree and eligibility for Full licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia.
  • Eligibility for a clinical faculty appointment with the UBC Faculty of Medicine
  • Demonstrated ability working as a member of an interdisciplinary mental health team.
  • A commitment to participate in new methods in health care improvement and delivery.
  • Experience working with general adult psychiatry, eating disorders & interest in teaching
  • Must meet the credentialing requirements of Vancouver Coastal Health.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a good knowledge of community resources.
  • Provide initial psychiatric assessments, consultations, and medication reviews.
  • Refer patients to group psychotherapy and time-limited individual psychotherapy.
