About The Position

The Medical Division in the Personnel Bureau of the New York City Police Department is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all members of service. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the mental fitness, resilience, and well-being of uniformed and civilian members of the Department.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York plus valid Board Certification issued by the appropriate American Specialty Board in an approved medical specialty; and four years of medical practice including one year of experience in an administrative or supervisory capacity; or A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to that listed above. However, all candidates must have a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York, and one year of medical practice in an administrative or supervisory capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief Surgeon in the planning, development, and implementation of Departmental behavioral health projects and initiatives.
  • Supervise and provide clinical oversight to Department psychologists, social workers, and other mental health professionals.
  • Assess mental fitness for employment, duty status, and return-to-work determinations.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations and provide consultation on complex clinical and operational matters.
  • Lead and participate in trauma debriefings, critical incident stress management, and post-incident interventions.
  • Develop and deliver lectures, trainings, and educational programs on mental health, wellness, resilience, and stress management.
  • Provide expert guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices related to psychiatric and behavioral health services.
  • Foster a comprehensive behavioral health program that supports the overall well-being and readiness of Department personnel.
