PSYCHIATRIST - Geriatrics
About The Position
The staff psychiatrist serves as the leader of a Treatment Team on the Geriatric Unit and provides direct medical and psychiatric care for patients assigned to the Treatment Team. This role also includes providing consultation to colleagues, supervision of nurse practitioners and/or physician assistants as requested, and participating in the Medical Professional Staff organization. The position requires comprehensive knowledge of current developments and techniques in the diagnoses and treatment of general medical illnesses, and basic knowledge of the principles and practices of psychiatry. The ability to provide leadership to treatment teams, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with medical/psychiatric colleagues and members of other disciplines is essential. The role also involves working in a secure and locked environment with individuals experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement.
Requirements
- Licensed to practice medicine in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- A current DEA certificate is also required.
- Completion of an approved residency program in Psychiatry is required.
- Either current BLS or ACLS certification is required.
- ACLS is required for those wishing to provide on call MOD coverage at night, weekends, or holidays.
Nice To Haves
- Certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology is preferred but not required.
- Experience and/or fellowship with geriatrics is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate satisfactory training, skill, expertise, and knowledge in the treatment of psychiatric patients.
- Work experience with inpatient psychiatric populations is preferred.
