Psychiatrist (MD/DO) - Inpatient

Munson Healthcare•Traverse City, MI

About The Position

Munson Healthcare is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible physician to join its inpatient psychiatry team, serving a 17-bed adult inpatient behavioral health unit. The psychiatrist works alongside another psychiatrist and two advanced practice providers, typically sharing the patient load with one APP. The role includes limited weekend consultation coverage and home call for admissions and cross-coverage. Call is one weekend day and one weekday during the service week, with no call during the seven days off. Residents perform required overnight face-to-face evaluations, so being called into the hospital is rare. The schedule is seven days on and seven days off. The position includes teaching third- and fourth-year medical students, family medicine residents, and psychiatry residents. The department is expanding and supports physicians in exploring clinical interests. The role offers opportunities to provide individual and collaborative care using evidence-based practices and to help develop Munson Healthcare’s behavioral health services. Munson Healthcare also provides outpatient behavioral health services, a partial hospital program, a walk-in crisis center, and psychiatric urgent care. Munson Healthcare is a not-for-profit health system serving northern Michigan. The organization offers a competitive compensation package, benefits, paid holidays, paid time off, CME support, professional liability coverage, a sign-on bonus, retirement savings with employer match, wellness resources, and employee discounts. The job posting also describes Traverse City and northern Michigan as offering extensive outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, and community amenities.
