About The Position

Richmond Hospital Department of Psychiatry is currently seeking a psychiatrist to join as a permanent fulltime member in the hospital. This role includes a 0.5 FTE position in the Richmond Hospital 2 West In-Patient Service, providing psychiatric assessment and treatment to admitted patients, doing consultants in the Emergency Department, and liaising with the primary care team. Additionally, there is a 0.3 FTE position in the Adult Mental Health Team, offering longer-term management of severe and persistent mental health conditions in the community. Finally, a 0.2 FTE position in the Concurrent Disorders Program involves providing specialized psychiatric care to individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. Richmond Hospital is a fully accredited, 228 acute care bed facility serving a local population of 200,000 with an additional catchment area of almost 120,000. The hospital is undergoing a campus-wide expansion and renewal, with a new acute care tower planned for completion by 2028.

Requirements

  • Current College of Physicians of BC (CPSBC) – Full
  • Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) – Mandatory
  • Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Canada (FRCPC) – Mandatory

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to patients admitted in medical and surgical wards.
  • Do consultants in the Emergency Department.
  • Liaise and collaborate with the primary care team for integrated patient care.
  • Provide longer-term management of severe and persistent mental health conditions requiring an interdisciplinary treatment team.
  • Provide specialized psychiatric care to individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders.
  • Collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams across acute and community settings to deliver integrated, evidence-based treatment, consultation, and care planning.
