About The Position

This role is for a General Adult Psychiatrist with faculty responsibilities at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, MD. The position offers a varied psychiatry practice across multiple care settings, including a 12-bed Adult Acute Psychiatry Unit, a 6-bed Crisis Stabilization Unit, Consult-Liaison Psychiatry, Addiction Medicine consults, and Psychiatric ED consult service. Outpatient services include Behavioral Health Urgent Care, Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP), and therapy services, with telehealth psychiatry also utilized. The psychiatrist will treat adults with a full spectrum of psychiatric conditions, such as Major Depressive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia-spectrum disorders, Anxiety disorders, and Substance Use Disorders. Care commonly involves management of suicidal ideation, psychosis, mania, substance withdrawal, capacity evaluations, and medication/psychotherapy management. In addition to clinical duties, the role includes dedicated faculty time (0.1 FTE) for teaching, clinical supervision of psychiatry residents and medical students, and opportunities for didactics, lectures, advising, research, and committee participation within a growing academic psychiatry department. The schedule is Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 4 PM, with at-home weekday call and a weekend call rotation. Requirements

  • Medical degree (MD/DO) and completion of Psychiatry residency.
  • Ability to provide varied psychiatry practice across multiple care settings (inpatient, outpatient, consult-liaison).
  • Experience treating adults with a full spectrum of psychiatric conditions.
  • Ability to manage suicidal ideation, psychosis, mania, substance withdrawal, capacity evaluations, and medication/psychotherapy management.
  • Ability to provide clinical supervision to residents and medical students.
  • Willingness to participate in academic activities such as didactics, lectures, advising, research, and committees.
  • Willingness to participate in at-home weekday call and weekend call rotation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide varied psychiatry practice across multiple care settings including inpatient, outpatient, and consult-liaison.

  • Fulfill teaching responsibilities during protected educational time (0.1 FTE).
  • Participate in at-home weekday call (at most once per week).
  • Participate in weekend call rotation (approximately every 6 weeks).
