About The Position

Assumes responsibility for the psychiatric care and treatment of clients in the Inpatient setting. Responsible for comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric disorders in the inpatient setting. Works collaboratively with nursing staff, social workers, therapists, case managers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to promote patient safety, stabilization, recovery, and appropriate transition to the next level of care. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Physician licensed in State of Wisconsin
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry
  • Licensed with Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)
  • Knowledge of multi-disciplinary mental health treatment methods.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric treatment in assigned areas.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records or ability to learn those skills.
  • Ability to evaluate, develop and implement plans in the care of clients.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team, courts and a variety of referral sources.
  • Ability to supervise and direct multi-disciplinary professional staff in the implementation of client care and treatment.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, staff and the public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work the required hours of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Use a variety of methods to evaluate a patient and conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, mostly by interviewing patients, their family or other persons.
  • Develop individualized treatment plan according to the needs of the patient’s needs and extent of emotional, social, cognitive, developmental, or behavioral disorder.
  • Directs, supervises, and provides consultation when needed to other clinic professional staff in the implementation of treatment plans and care of clients under his/her care.
  • Diagnose and treat a broad range of acute and chronic psychiatric disorders, including mood disorders, psychotic disorders, anxiety disorders, substance-use disorders, personality disorders, and other behavioral health conditions.
  • Determine appropriate levels of observation, precautions, and other safety interventions in accordance with clinical needs and facility policies.
  • Provide ongoing psychiatric follow-up and document patients' clinical progress, response to treatment, medication changes, and discharge readiness.
  • Treat a patient using psychotherapeutic methods and medication, monitoring the effects of any medication, and adjusting treatment where necessary.
  • Provide crisis intervention, clinical leadership, and direction regarding the management of acutely psychiatrically ill patients, when needed.
  • Complete required medical records and clinical documentation accurately, timely, and in accordance with applicable regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Discharges clients and/or assists in the closing of cases on clients under his/her care in a timely manner.
  • Provides expert testimony in court cases, when required.
  • Assists the Clinical Director in the development, evaluation and implementation of clinical programs.
  • Ensures provision of active treatment including alternative interventions.
  • Ensures provision of therapeutic groups as scheduled with assigned patients in attendance or alternative treatment provided.
  • Ensures provision of active treatment on evenings and weekends.
  • Participates in the organization, meetings, and duties as required; including an equitable share of night and weekend on-call duty.
  • Assumes overall responsibility for the care rendered to clients under his/her care.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable federal and state laws, licensing requirements, standards, and facility policies.
  • Participate in quality improvement, utilization review, peer review, and other clinical or administrative activities as assigned.
  • Follow ethical and legal policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Maintains the confidential nature of client and business information.
  • Performs related functions as assigned.
