Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board Certification in Psychiatry required
  • Active and unrestricted medical license in the applicable state(s) of practice.
  • DEA registration with ability to prescribe controlled substances, including buprenorphine products
  • Excellent communication, leadership, collaboration, and clinical documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • additional board certification or fellowship training in Addiction Medicine and/or Addiction Psychiatry strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience treating substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions preferred.
  • Prior supervisory, leadership, or advanced practice provider oversight experience preferred.
  • Experience in detoxification, residential treatment, partial hospitalization (PHP), and/or intensive outpatient (IOP) settings preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of ASAM criteria, addiction medicine best practices, co-occurring disorder treatment, and regulatory standards.
  • Familiarity with Joint Commission standards and healthcare quality improvement initiatives preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnostic assessments, and medication management for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric conditions.
  • Provide psychiatric consultation and support for complex behavioral health and addiction medicine cases.
  • Support detoxification and residential treatment programming through withdrawal management guidance and psychopharmacology oversight.
  • Maintain timely, accurate, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record, including evaluations, progress notes, treatment recommendations, discharge summaries, and physician orders.
  • Review medical and psychiatric screening processes to ensure patient needs are appropriately identified and addressed throughout treatment.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary treatment planning, case reviews, and care coordination meetings.
  • Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical oversight to Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNPs), including guidance on diagnostic formulation, treatment planning, psychopharmacology, continuity of care, and evidence-based practices.
  • Help establish and maintain psychiatric standards, workflows, protocols, and best practices across the organization.
  • Provide education and clinical guidance to medical, nursing, and clinical staff on psychiatry, addiction medicine, co-occurring disorders, MAT, and psychopharmacology.
  • Support clinical consistency, quality of care, and appropriate utilization of psychiatric services.
  • Assist executive and operational leadership in developing, implementing, and reviewing psychiatric and medical policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Support regulatory readiness and compliance efforts related to Joint Commission, ASAM criteria, state regulations, payer expectations, and organizational policies.
  • Participate in quality assurance, chart reviews, peer review, and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor and help improve psychiatric and medical performance metrics, including documentation quality, treatment outcomes, continuity of care, MAT utilization, and compliance.
  • Collaborate with leadership on patient acuity, clinical outcomes, risk management, staffing needs, and psychiatric program development.
  • Support on-call psychiatric consultation and emergency response processes as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
