About The Position

The Hampton-Newport News Community Services Board is seeking a full-time Psychiatric Technician to join our on-site team and play a key role in improving lives. As a Psychiatric Technician at our BJ Roberts Behavioral Health Center, you will play a key role in providing direct care and supervision for individuals living with serious mental health challenges and co-occurring substance use disorders. Your duties will include monitoring and documenting client progress in an intensive, short-term residential setting, while collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to deliver effective treatment and case coordination. You will lead both individual and group development training focused on independent living skills and leisure activities, supporting clients' personal growth and overall wellness. In addition, you will assist with essential household services that are crucial for client care and the maintenance of the facility. Your role is essential in ensuring the health, safety, and civil rights of all clients and their families, and your contributions will directly impact their emotional well-being and recovery. Requirements

  • One (1) year direct care experience working with adults with serious mental illness
  • Demonstrated experience in managing adults living with behavioral health issues and substance use or co-occurring disorders
  • Solid understanding of serious mental health disorders, alongside the principles and practices of care tailored to these individuals
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) preferred
