About The Position
The Psychiatric Technician - Atrium Health Charlotte Behavioral Health Emergency Department (ED) FT Days position is a full-time role requiring 36 hours per week, with a schedule of 7 AM to 7 PM and rotating weekend coverage. The role involves observing, reporting, and documenting patient behavior changes, interacting therapeutically with patients, and assisting in various therapeutic activities. The technician will use CPI techniques appropriately, make regular rounds on assigned patients, and demonstrate flexibility in a changing workload. Empathy, dignity, and confidentiality are key in patient interactions. The position also includes participation in unit-based process improvement, committees, and potentially on-call duties. All mandatory training must be completed as per facility policy.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Good therapeutic communication skills required.
- CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Observes, reports, and documents signs and symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
- Interacts with patients therapeutically.
- Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
- Uses CPI techniques appropriately.
- Makes rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during shift.
- Demonstrates flexibility in changing workload.
- Responds to patients with empathy, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
- Participates in unit-based process improvement activities.
- Participates in unit-based committees.
- May include on-call duties as requested by administration.
- Completes all mandatory training as per facility policy.
