Psychiatric Technician - Atrium Health Cabarrus Emergency Department (ED) Psychiatric Observation Unit FT Nights
About The Position
The Psychiatric Technician will work in the Atrium Health Cabarrus Emergency Department (ED) Psychiatric Observation Unit. This is a full-time night position requiring 36 hours per week, with hours from 1845 to 0715 and some weekend rotation. The role involves observing and documenting patient behavior, interacting therapeutically with patients, assisting in group activities, and ensuring patient dignity and confidentiality. The technician will also participate in unit-based process improvement and committees, and may be required to perform on-call duties. All mandatory training must be completed as per facility policy.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Good therapeutic communication skills required.
- CPI certification required within 90 days of hire date.
- BLS required per policy guidelines.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Relevant patient care experience in a hospital setting preferred.
Responsibilities
- Observes, reports, and documents signs and symptoms or changes in patient behavior to charge nurse.
- Interacts with patients therapeutically.
- Assists, initiates, and participates in social and recreational activities, group therapy, patient teaching groups, and other group activities.
- Uses CPI techniques appropriately.
- Makes rounds on assigned patients at least every half hour during shift.
- Demonstrates flexibility in changing workload.
- Responds to patients with empathy, maintaining their dignity and confidentiality.
- Participates in unit-based process improvement activities.
- Participates in unit-based committees.
- May include on-call duties as requested by administration.
- All mandatory training as per facility policy.
