About The Position

The Psychiatric Technician helps maintain the safety of patients who are at risk of harm to themselves or others. Under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse (RN) and Behavioral Health Support Team, the technician provides care incorporating Family Centered Care in a cost-effective manner and appropriate to the developmental and age-related needs of the patient population. Evening shifts are available from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m., with full-time and part-time options. Successful candidates must undergo respiratory fit testing in compliance with occupational health and safety standards.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
One year of behavioral health experience in an inpatient or outpatient setting.
BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
Successful candidates must undergo respiratory fit testing.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, or another related field.
Pediatric behavioral health experience.
Crisis Prevention certification.

Responsibilities

Provide continual direct observation of patients requiring special precautions to help ensure a safe environment during their hospital stay.
Remain with the assigned patient at all times during the assigned shift.
Observe patients and monitor for at-risk behavior.
Monitor for sharps and other contraband that could cause harm to patients or others.
Assist the nurse in maintaining an environment conducive to the safety of patients, visitors, and employees.
Assist with implementation of individualized patient care plans.
Promote healthy coping through verbal support and implementation of the health care team's behavior plan.
Support the patient care team by observing and communicating information about patients’ status.
Maintain accountability for personal development.
Demonstrate commitment to the team, flexibility, professional interpersonal communication, and customer service skills.
