About The Position

Sea Mar Community Health Centers is seeking a Psychiatric Provider Aide to support Psychiatric prescribers in administrative and clinical areas. This role involves coordinating care with Mental Health Therapists and Chemical Dependency Professionals to ensure continuity of treatment for clients. The aide will provide screenings and case management, actively participating as a team member in client services and community support coordination. Requirements

  • Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
  • Good character, understanding, physical health, emotional stability, and personality suited to meet the needs of the population served.
  • Proficient in speaking, writing, and reading English.
  • Basic mathematical skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and division; ability to convert pounds to kilograms.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret instructions.
  • Familiarity with various software, including Microsoft Office Windows, business websites, and proprietary software (EMR, EKG monitors, etc.).
  • Proficiency with agency PM and EHR systems before the end of the probationary period.
  • Understanding of mental health and chemical dependency treatment.
  • Good organizational and communication skills.
  • Professionalism and appropriate boundaries in all interactions.
  • Ability to work on a team and receive/give constructive criticism.
  • No history or evidence of alcohol or other drug misuse for three years prior to employment and no misuse while employed.
  • No felony conviction within the last seven years, no conviction of child abuse, and no conviction of any crime involving physical harm to another person.
  • Not a perpetrator of substantiated child abuse.
  • Demonstrates respect and appreciation for diversity and understanding of the community system.
  • Demonstrated experience with and ability to form and maintain effective relationships with clients, team members, and community providers.
  • Must pass a Washington State Patrol background check.
  • Must sign a permanent oath of confidentiality.

  • Ability to speak and interpret in Spanish and/or Russian is preferred and may be required depending upon the needs of the clinic.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in ensuring agency compliance with WAC's, RCW's, and other pertinent laws, regulations, and contracts.
  • Prepares charts, prescription refill requests, and other necessary paperwork for the psychiatric prescriber.
  • Maintains medication storage, maintenance, dispensation, and waste logs in accordance with Sea Mar policies.
  • Ensures that all medical, nursing, health & safety, and personnel policies and procedures are followed.
  • Assists psychiatric staff with client flow and provides quality of care.
  • Completes routine checks and monitors clients for unusual or harmful behavior, reporting observations to psychiatric staff.
  • Prepares patients for office visits by obtaining subjective data and vital signs, ensuring charting compliance.
  • Works as part of an integrated care team including psychiatrists, social workers, behavioral health professionals, chemical dependency professionals, and case managers.
  • Provides routine physical, emotional, psychological, or rehabilitation care to mentally impaired or emotionally disturbed clients under the direction of psychiatric staff.
  • Encourages client participation in social, educational, recreational, and employment activities.
  • Receives and processes medication refill requests, preparing them for provider review and approval, and ensuring prescriptions are faxed to pharmacies.
  • Checks EHR to confirm refill request validity and communicates with pharmacies or sends refill requests to providers.
  • Checks medication history in EHR as requested by the prescriber.
  • Collaborates with the prescriber to determine next steps.
  • Fields phone calls from clients regarding side effects and/or refill status.
  • Facilitates client enrollment in prescription assistance programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles over the life span.
  • Identifies and categorizes client's age-specific grouping of needs.
  • Provides medication monitoring, including effects on the client, and provides feedback to the psychiatrist regarding side effects.
  • Screens for suicide risk and informs psychiatric prescriber and mental health therapist.
  • Uses case management and builds community support for follow-up care.
  • Maintains confidentiality and offers ideas for handling challenging situations.
  • Provides advocacy and encourages cooperation in implementing Service Plans or resolving problems.
  • Assists clients in accomplishing necessary tasks for service accessibility, such as filling out forms, obtaining documentation, or finding transportation.
  • Makes referrals to appropriate agencies and/or community services based on identified needs.
  • Maintains files documenting case management activities.
  • Participates in regular interdisciplinary team case reviews.
  • Promotes a positive team approach and collaborates with staff to provide comprehensive, individualized services.
  • Welcomes and orients new staff and visitors.
  • Maintains professional standards and follows agency treatment policies and procedures, as well as applicable regulations.
  • Completes daily record keeping as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Reports unusual incidents to the Program Manager and suspected child/elder abuse or neglect as mandated.
  • Supports a full-time provider (MD/ARNP) to see an average of 14 patients per day.
  • Assists providers with GYN exams, I & D's, and other minor procedures.
  • Demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication.
  • Contacts the provider immediately for patients with abnormal vital signs.
  • Utilizes aseptic (sterile) technique.
  • Completes point of care referrals for patients, including specialty care and care coordination.
  • Assists with obtaining laboratory tests and results.
  • Maintains positive collaborative working relationships with co-workers, specialists, and community organizations.
  • Ensures customer service is delivered at each patient visit, including escorting patients to and from treatment rooms.
  • Communicates provider delays and delays in patient flow to front desk staff and patients.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the nursing parameters of the Electronic Health Record and Practice Management Application programs.
  • Demonstrates knowledge, proficiency, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and can perform CPR independently.
  • Measures and records fluid and food intake and output.
  • Recognizes, responds to, and reports client's or resident's emotional, social, cultural, and mental health needs.
  • Addresses individual behavioral needs of the client or resident.
  • Performs all duties under WAC 246-841-400 depending on the work environment.
