About The Position

Lake Region Healthcare / Lake Region Medical Group, P.A. is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative Psychiatric Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality, evidence-based psychiatric care to patients across the lifespan (or specified population, e.g., adult, child/adolescent, geriatric). As an APP, you will work autonomously and in collaboration with psychiatrists, therapists, primary care providers, and the broader care team to assess, diagnose, treat, and manage mental health and substance use disorders in a supportive, patient-centered environment.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (for PMHNP) or Physician Assistant Studies from an accredited program.
  • Current, unrestricted license as a Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC preferred) or Physician Assistant in Minnesota upon start.
  • National board certification in Psychiatry (e.g., PMHNP-BC) or relevant specialty.
  • DEA license with authority to prescribe controlled substances (Schedule II-V).
  • BLS certification upon start.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in outpatient, inpatient, emergency, or telepsychiatry settings.
  • Training in specific modalities such as CBT, DBT, or addiction medicine.
  • Bilingual skills beneficial
  • Comfort with electronic health records

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including history, mental status exams, and risk assessments.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, PTSD, ADHD, and co-occurring substance use disorders.
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, including monitoring for side effects, drug interactions, and therapeutic response.
  • Provide psychotherapy (brief interventions, supportive therapy, or evidence-based modalities depending on training and scope).
  • Order and interpret laboratory tests, imaging, and other diagnostics as needed.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with patients and families.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, and care coordination.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Provide patient and family education on mental health conditions, treatment options, and wellness strategies.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and stay current with best practices in psychiatry.
  • Respond to psychiatric emergencies or crises as required by the practice setting.
  • Serve as an inpatient psychiatric consultant as requested during business hours.
  • No after hours or weekend on-call required.
  • Full-time position in Fergus Falls, MN during clinic hours, Monday – Friday with options to incorporate virtual visits into schedule and for a condensed work week.
