About The Position

NaphCare is seeking an experienced Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our healthcare team at the Washoe County Jail in Reno, Nevada. This part-time, onsite opportunity averages just 10 hours per week and is ideal for a psychiatric provider seeking a flexible clinical role that can complement an existing practice or professional schedule. With compensation of $76.00–$80.00 per hour, this position offers the opportunity to provide meaningful psychiatric care without the commitment of a traditional full-time schedule. As a PMHNP, you will provide psychiatric assessments, medication management, and ongoing treatment for a diverse patient population with complex behavioral health needs. You’ll collaborate with an experienced multidisciplinary team while maintaining clinical autonomy in the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered psychiatric care. Requirements

  • Master's or Doctoral degree in Nursing
  • Current, unrestricted Nevada Nurse Practitioner license
  • Current Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification
  • Current DEA registration
  • Current BLS/CPR certification
  • Ability to successfully complete facility background and drug screening requirements

  • Behavioral health experience with complex patient populations
  • Strong psychiatric assessment, medication management, and clinical decision-making skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
  • Ability to practice independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary healthcare team
  • Correctional healthcare experience is preferred, but not required

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat patients with behavioral health and substance use disorders.
  • Support the facility's Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) program by evaluating patients and developing individualized treatment plans.
  • Obtain patient histories, perform physical assessments as appropriate, and formulate evidence-based treatment plans.
  • Prescribe medications and monitor patient response to treatment.
  • Admit, evaluate, and discharge patients in accordance with established clinical protocols.
  • Conduct patient rounds and ensure continuity of care throughout the treatment process.
  • Order, review, and interpret laboratory and diagnostic testing as clinically indicated.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, and correctional staff to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
  • Respond to urgent psychiatric needs while promoting patient safety and maintaining appropriate clinical documentation.
  • Educate patients on their diagnoses, medications, treatment plans, and available behavioral health resources.
