About The Position

Waukesha County Department of Health and Human Services (WCDHHS) is recruiting for a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (APRN) to work within its Outpatient Behavioral Health Services division. This role involves providing psychiatric evaluation and medication management for individuals with mental health and/or substance use conditions, many of whom have serious and persistent illnesses, enrolled in outpatient intensive case management programs. These programs offer psychosocial rehabilitation and treatment services, including Community Support Program (DHS 63), Comprehensive Community Services (DHS 36), Targeted Case Management, and Outpatient Services (DHS 75). The APRN will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and may consult with Chapter 51 court services case managers, potentially requiring testimony in Chapter 51 extension hearings. The position may also involve limited telehealth services.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Master of Science in Nursing.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist or Nurse Practitioner or possession of a State waiver of equivalency.
  • Current license as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber by the State of Wisconsin.
  • Must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience prescribing oral and injectable medications as an advanced practice nurse for individuals with mental health conditions, substance use conditions, and co-occurring conditions.
  • Willingness to prescribe medication-assisted treatment to individuals with substance use conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management for individuals diagnosed with mental health and/or substance use conditions.
  • Serve individuals enrolled in outpatient intensive case management programs, including Community Support Program (DHS 63), Comprehensive Community Services (DHS 36), Targeted Case Management, and Outpatient Services (DHS 75).
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with various professionals.
  • Consult with Chapter 51 court services case managers for a subset of patients mandated to receive treatment through a court order.
  • Potentially provide testimony in Chapter 51 extension hearings.
  • Provide limited telehealth services as required.
