About The Position

Conifer Park is seeking a per diem Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner for its outpatient clinic in Syracuse, New York. The role provides psychiatric evaluation and care to patients with existing or newly diagnosed psychiatric illnesses that interfere with substance use disorder treatment. The Nurse Practitioner assesses and treats psychiatric conditions, supports medication and therapy management, helps coordinate continuity of care, and responds to psychiatric emergencies.

Requirements

Postgraduate degree: master's in psychiatric nursing.
Current New York State nursing license.
Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (preferred).
Experience treating individuals with substance use disorders (preferred).
Active Medicaid number (highly preferred).

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive psychiatric examinations, determine initial diagnoses, and document findings in patient charts.
Develop a collaborative practice agreement with a physician, if required.
Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests, including laboratory tests needed to manage psychiatric diagnoses or prescribed medications.
Develop, implement, and document patient management plans, medication and therapy recommendations, and continuity-of-care planning.
Perform and document follow-up visits, updating diagnoses and medications as needed.
Assess and manage medication effects and side effects.
Instruct and counsel patients on compliance with prescribed therapeutic regimens and treatment of substance use disorder.
Perform pre-admission clearance for patients with psychiatric symptoms and conduct pre-admission interviews when indicated.
Participate in psychiatry department triage activities.
Evaluate and treat psychiatric emergencies, including responding to codes.
Conduct emergency evaluations of suicidal patients and direct appropriate status and precautions.
Refer unstable patients to appropriate psychiatric facilities.
Participate in individual case assignments, case conferences, multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, educational presentations for staff and patients, medical staff meetings, and patient care monitoring conferences.
Perform additional duties as assigned by the Medical Director.
