Blackbird Health’s 9–12 month Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Residency Program is designed for recent graduates and clinicians with less than one year of PMHNP work experience who are transitioning from graduate school to professional practice. The program combines clinical experience, didactic learning, tailored curriculum, workshops, mentorship, and interdisciplinary collaboration to prepare residents to practice as specialists in child and adolescent mental health. The next cohort is scheduled to begin January 25, 2027. Under the supervision of the Director of the Residency Program, residents provide psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, treatment planning, and medication management for children, adolescents, and young adults. The role includes patient and family education, consultation, diagnostic testing coordination, documentation, and participation in clinical and supervisory meetings. Residents work in a hybrid model, with two days onsite each week at the Allentown/Lafayette, Pennsylvania clinic and a Monday–Friday schedule of 10:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m. Twelve of the 40 weekly hours must fall during after-school hours (after 4:00 p.m. on weekdays or any time on weekends). After successfully completing the 12-month residency, participants join Blackbird Clinical Services for an additional two years, for a total commitment of three years. Blackbird offers a guaranteed salary and caseload, administrative support, modern offices, and opportunities for continued professional growth.
