About The Position

The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner or Psychiatrist (Early Childhood Program) to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients. For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds. Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited program or Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in Psychiatry (PMHNP) in the State of New York or Current New York State medical license and DEA registration.
  • Board Certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (Across the Lifespan or Child/Adolescent Focus) or Board Certified or Board Eligible in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.
  • Experience working with families, caregivers, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and documentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in child or early childhood psychiatry preferred.
  • Knowledge of early childhood development, trauma, and attachment theory strongly preferred.
  • Bilingual (Spanish/English) preferred

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, including developmental, medical, and psychosocial assessments.
  • Diagnose mental health and behavioral disorders in young children in accordance with DSM-5-TR and developmental considerations.
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans, including psychopharmacological interventions when appropriate.
  • Provide ongoing medication management, monitoring efficacy, side effects, and adherence.
  • Collaborate closely with parents/caregivers to promote understanding of the child’s diagnosis, treatment, and medication plan.
  • Coordinate care with therapists, case managers, pediatricians, and schools to ensure a holistic approach to treatment.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Provide psychoeducation and consultation to staff regarding early childhood psychiatric and developmental issues.
  • Engage in trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and family-centered care practices.
