About The Position

This position is open to All Applicants. The Alaska Psychiatric Institute (API) is recruiting for a Psychiatric Nurse 3. The Infection Control Nurse oversees the Infection Control and Employee Health Programs at API. This role is responsible for monitoring immunization status, tracking infections, and identifying areas of potential risk. The nurse maintains accurate health and infection-related records and provides education to both current and onboarding staff. Additional responsibilities include ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory agencies, revising policies and procedures to reflect updates in regulations or statutes, and serving as an active member of the Environment of Care Team. In this capacity, the nurse collaborates with hospital leadership, offering consultation and guidance on infection prevention matters. Requirements

  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska.
  • Two years of professional experience as a Registered Nurse, one of which must have been as a full performance/journey level Psychiatric or Corrections Nurse.
  • This latter experience may be met by prior service as a Psychiatric Nurse 2 or Corrections Nurse 2 with the State of Alaska or its equivalent with another employer.
  • Candidates not currently licensed by the State of Alaska, who otherwise meet the eligibility requirements for licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska and requisite qualifying experience, may apply for vacancies in this job class.
  • Proof of Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap), Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR), and Varicella Immunizations.
  • Proof of Hepatitis B (immunity or declination statement).
  • Proof of Tuberculosis screening within the past 12 months.
  • Must pass a comprehensive background investigation, which includes a state and FBI fingerprint-based background check.
  • Must provide proof they are free from active pulmonary tuberculosis at the time of hire.
