About The Position

Carilion Clinic is seeking a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our outpatient behavioral health team at Carilion Clinic Tanglewood in Roanoke, Virginia. This is an excellent opportunity for a PMHNP who enjoys developing meaningful relationships with patients while providing comprehensive, evidence-based psychiatric care in a collaborative outpatient environment. With a full-time day shift schedule, this position offers the opportunity to build a rewarding behavioral health career while maintaining a predictable schedule. As part of Carilion Clinic’s behavioral health team, the PMHNP will provide psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and ongoing medication management for patients in the outpatient setting. You’ll work alongside physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, and other behavioral health professionals to provide coordinated, patient-centered care.

Requirements

  • Appropriate Virginia licensure and certification, or eligibility to obtain
  • Strong clinical assessment and communication skills
  • Commitment to compassionate, patient-centered behavioral health care
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team
  • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and Nurse Practitioner program or an accredited Physician Assistant program required.
  • PMHNP preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience preferred.
  • Additional experience may be required based on specialty.
  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Nurse Practitioners must also hold a current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia.
  • Must be eligible for prescriptive authority in accordance with state regulations and as authorized by the Virginia Boards of Nursing and Medicine.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications required as appropriate to the position.
  • Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of Carilion Clinic, the Virginia Board of Medicine or Nursing, and applicable certifying bodies.
  • Must meet practice and managed care credentialing requirements and qualify for malpractice insurance coverage.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with physicians and other healthcare providers.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer systems required.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and assessments
  • Diagnosing and treating behavioral and mental health conditions
  • Providing medication management and ongoing follow-up care
  • Developing individualized treatment plans
  • Collaborating with physicians, therapists, and other members of the multidisciplinary team
  • Educating patients and families and supporting them throughout the treatment process
  • Maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentation
