About The Position

We are seeking a skilled, compassionate Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our clinical team on a part‑time basis in Richmond, VA. The successful clinician will deliver high‑quality, patient‑centred mental health services across post‑acute, long‑term care and assisted living settings as well as outpatient consultations where required. This role requires collaborative practice with nursing staff, primary clinicians, and interdisciplinary teams to support optimal behavioural health outcomes for residents and patients.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nurse Practitioner studies with PMHNP specialty from an accredited program
  • Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner licence in Virginia and current DEA registration where required for prescribing
  • Certification as a PMHNP and current basic life support (BLS) certification; additional certifications as required by facility policy
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Electronic Medical Record systems and strong, timely documentation practices
  • Excellent clinical judgement, therapeutic communication skills and the ability to work autonomously while collaborating within multidisciplinary teams
  • Culturally sensitive, trauma‑informed approach and commitment to patient‑centered, dignified care

  • Experience in behavioural health, geriatrics, post‑acute care, long‑term care or similar settings preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments, risk evaluations and mental health screenings for residents and patients across assigned settings
  • Develop, implement and monitor evidence‑based treatment plans including psychotherapy, psychopharmacology and non‑pharmacologic interventions appropriate to the population
  • Prescribe and manage psychotropic medications within scope of practice and in accordance with Virginia regulations; conduct medication reviews, reconciliation and monitoring for side effects and interactions
  • Provide crisis intervention, de‑escalation and management of behavioural disturbances in collaboration with facility staff
  • Order, interpret and act upon relevant diagnostic tests; coordinate referrals to psychiatric specialists, therapists and community resources as needed
  • Document patient encounters accurately and promptly in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ensuring clear communication of clinical reasoning, risk plans and follow‑up arrangements
  • Collaborate closely with nursing leadership, primary care clinicians, social workers and other interdisciplinary team members to support care planning, transitions and safe discharges
  • Participate in case reviews, care conferences, quality improvement activities and infection prevention initiatives as applicable
  • Provide education and clinical support to on‑site staff, residents and families regarding behavioural health, medication effects and strategies for supportive care
  • Maintain required clinical documentation, comply with regulatory and facility policies, and assist with chart audits and peer review when requested
