About The Position

The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) reports to the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Department Director (PMHNPDD). This role involves conducting psychiatric evaluations, managing psychopharmacology, coordinating interdisciplinary care, documenting clinical data, and serving as a resource for staff regarding psychopharmacological agents. The PMHNP will also coordinate with MCPAP and CBHI for pediatric patients and initiate transfers to specialized psychiatric services as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have a current Massachusetts Nurse Practitioner license, DEA Registration, MA Controlled Substance Registration, and credentials to practice as a PMHNP.
  • Must have at least 2 years experience as a PMHNP.
  • Expected to have a strong commitment to community health and care of underserved populations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive mental status exams and diagnostic assessments.
  • Arrange timely follow-up to ensure stabilization.
  • Prescribe, monitor, and adjust psychotropic medications safely.
  • Coordinate and manage any necessary labs or EKG testing with PCP.
  • Partner with PCPs, therapists, community health workers and others as appropriate.
  • Maintain precise electronic health record (EHR) files in compliance with regulations.
  • Coordinate with MCPAP and Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI) as appropriate for pediatric patients.
  • Serve as a resource for all staff regarding information about prescribing and managing psychopharmacological agents.
  • Initiate transfers to specialized psychiatric services as needed.
