About The Position

SWVMHI in Marion, VA is recruiting for 12-hour, PM Shift Psychiatric Care Technicians/CNAs to join its talented and dedicated Nursing Services Team. The position hours are 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m., working at least every other weekend. Shift differentials and weekend/holiday supplements are available.

Requirements

Ability to distinguish between safe and unsafe patient behavior by observing, interacting, and listening.
Ability to read, write and speak in the English language.
Ability to observe, report and document changes in patients’ mental, physical and behavioral status.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to maintain all required orientation and annual competencies.
Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with supervisors, co-workers and patients from varied backgrounds using effective interpersonal skills.
Ability to recognize the need and ask for help or assistance in providing care and treatment.
Ability to give and receive effective feedback and perform as a member of a team.
Ability to administer CPR and perform Therapeutic Options approved physical interventions.
Ability to work overtime hours, rotating weekends, and holidays.
Ability to use email and electronic health records.
Will obtain certification as a C.N.A by the Virginia Board of Nursing within probationary period.
Knowledge of basic treatment measures to promote mental health appropriate to the adult, developmentally disabled or impaired, and/or geriatric populations.
Ability to work overtime in a staffing emergency.
Ability to work in a secure and locked environment with individuals who are experiencing acute symptoms of mental illness and/or additional forensic/legal involvement.
Knowledge of personal care needs and activities of daily living.
Ability to carry out responsibilities of the position.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively with others.
Ability to turn, bend and lift non-ambulatory patients without restrictions.
Ability to provide direct patient care under supervision of licensed nursing staff.
Ability to demonstrate competencies as defined on the C.N.A. competency assessment.
Maintain CNA (Certified Nursing Aide) certification in good standing with the VA State Board of Nursing.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or correction setting is preferred.
High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Valid Driver's License preferred.

Providing quality care as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Maintaining accountability in a safe, secure, and therapeutic environment.
Creating healthy interpersonal interactions on adult acute admissions unit, geriatric unit, and Extended Rehabilitation Service unit.
Observing and reporting feedback regarding interventions, treatments, behaviors, physical condition, emotional well-being, and other situations.
Documenting and communicating using specialized training for promoting mental wellness recovery.
