About The Position

The Clinical Health Psychology Postdoctoral Fellowship in Oncology at the University of Kansas Medical Center is a time-limited, advanced training position focused on the psychological care of individuals affected by cancer across the continuum of care. The fellowship provides supervised practitioner-scholar training within interdisciplinary oncology settings, emphasizing evidence-based assessment, intervention, consultation, and collaborative care to support patients and families coping with cancer diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Requirements

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology, or completion of all degree requirements, including a one-year full-time internship from an APA-accredited program.
  • All degree requirements, including successful dissertation defense, must be completed prior to the start of the fellowship.
  • Training in an APA accredited or approved PhD or PsyD program in Clinical or Counseling Psychology.
  • Relevant practitioner-scholar training experience in Neurorehabilitation Psychology; Child and Adolescent Psychology; Clinical Health Psychology; and/or Advanced Clinical Psychology.

Responsibilities

  • Provide outpatient oncology-based individual, couples, and family psychotherapy for patients and families affected by cancer.
  • Conduct brief cognitive assessments to evaluate cognitive and emotional functioning in oncology populations.
  • Participate in oncology interprofessional clinics as part of coordinated, multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Complete pre–blood and marrow transplant and cellular therapy psychological evaluations to support treatment readiness and care planning.
  • Provide crisis consultation and psychological support for patients and families experiencing acute distress.
  • Provide inpatient oncology consultation-liaison services in collaboration with medical teams across the health system.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary care coordination with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals in oncology settings.
  • Engage in supervised clinical training activities designed to support advanced competencies in clinical health psychology and preparation for independent practice.
