About The Position

Under the direction of the Office Manager, the PSI Assistant proofreads Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSI) reports and collects fees. This position is covered under the Circuit Court Employee Handbook. This is an employee-at-will position.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year experience in proof-reading
  • Knowledge of Criminal Justice System
  • Bank/cashier/teller experience
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other job related computer software programs (Odyssey and Informer)
  • Significant knowledge of grammar and reading copy looking for mistakes, proofreading
  • Ability to meet strict deadlines and adhere to format report processes
  • Ability to accurately receipt monies and make change
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail oriented and strong organization skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to use various office equipment including, but not limited to computer, printer, scanner, copier and calculator

Responsibilities

  • Proofreading and correcting all Pre-Sentence Investigation (PSI) reports including looking for mistyped words, grammatical errors and verifying information contained in the report is accurate.
  • Organizing reports based on filing dates once supervisor reviews and signs documents.
  • Copying PSI’s along with all essential additional information and distributing to Defense Attorney, Prosecutor’s Office and Court Copy.
  • Fulfilling requests from other departments for copies of the PSI.
  • Compiling monthly report totals of the number of PSIs conducted, distributing report to Office Manager and Writers.
  • Confirming information gained through the defendant and outside sources including the verification of dates and criminal history.
  • Performing fee clerk duties including collecting payments from defendants, assessing accounts and balancing cash drawer.
  • Accepting credit card payments over the telephone.
  • Answering questions regarding fees.
  • Making daily bank deposits.
  • Serving as a resource person for department interns.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.
