About The Position

Power Scholars Academy (PSA) is a summer learning loss prevention and academic intervention program. We support scholars from all over the Denver Metropolitan area in developing their academic foundation, as well as social emotional and critical thinking skills. Over the summer, scholars spend 3 hours per day, 4 days per week with credentialed teachers reviewing math and literacy concepts to help reach grade level and prepare them for the year ahead. This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. PSA Teacher serves as a member of the Youth Development team and will deliver professional customer service and relationship building skills by upholding Y philosophies. This role will closely work with Site Supervisor, teachers, and school personal to support and enhance students Power Scholars experience. Teachers will create a welcoming environment for academic growth by ensuring a safe learning environment and be available as support where needed between the classroom cohorts, from attendance to brain breaks. The work of Teacher Assistant is an integral to the success of serving our youth, we want relationship builders, and staff that can make authentic connections.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and 30 credit hours of early childhood, elementary or related human services field education, or 15 college credit hours and one-year experience related to the care and development of children or high school diploma and 2,500 hours of service.
  • At least 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement program activities.
  • Ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with diverse populations.
  • Outstanding verbal, written, and technological (computer/ internet) skills.
  • Ability to build relationships and influence scholars, staff, community members & families.
  • Love and respect for children.

Responsibilities

  • Lead engaging, high-quality academic instruction focused on reading and math growth
  • Create a classroom culture where every student feels seen, valued, and encouraged
  • Use creativity, energy, and relationship-building to make learning meaningful and fun
  • Partner with families, YMCA staff, and school communities to support student success
  • Celebrate milestones—big and small—and help students build confidence that lasts beyond summer
  • Support the classroom teacher(s) in the implementation of curriculum.
  • Support the development and delivery of relevant, engaging, and rigorous lessons.
  • Work with teachers to identify scholar needs and develop instructional plans and practices to best support scholars.
  • Supervise scholars during classroom transitions as well as during lunch, snack, brain break, etc.
  • Support classroom and behavior management consistently to develop a safe and productive learning environment.
  • Ensure the academic and social development of scholars throughout the course of the program.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
