About The Position

Louisiana State University of Alexandria (LSUA) seeks a dynamic, visionary, and student-centered leader to serve as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the Provost serves as the university's Chief Academic Officer and provides strategic leadership for all academic programs, faculty affairs, academic planning, assessment, accreditation, distance learning, and student-centered academic initiatives. As a key member of the Chancellor's Cabinet and Executive Leadership Team, the Provost plays a central role in shaping and implementing the university's strategic vision, particularly in the areas of academic innovation, degree development, enrollment growth, workforce alignment, faculty excellence, and online education expansion. The Provost provides leadership and oversight for LSUA's academic colleges and divisions, including Engaged Teaching and Learning and Distance Learning, and works collaboratively across the institution to support student achievement, institutional effectiveness, and academic excellence. The Provost also serves as LSUA's lead academic representative to the LSU System, the Louisiana Board of Regents, and other statewide and national academic, accreditation, and governance organizations. This position is an on-campus, 12-month academic administrative role, which carries faculty status.

Requirements

Earned doctorate (terminal degree) in an academic discipline from a regionally accredited institution
Successful academic leadership/administrative experience.
Demonstrated experience in accreditation processes, academic policy review, institutional effectiveness, and program assessment.
Proven leadership in faculty development and pedagogical innovation, including support for teaching excellence and evidence-based practices.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership for all Academic Affairs and academic operations of the university.
Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of the university's academic strategic priorities.
Play a central role in institutional strategic planning, particularly in the areas of academic growth, workforce responsiveness, innovation, and degree alignment.
Lead the strategic development, evaluation, and implementation of new academic degree programs, certificates, and academic pathways that align with student demand, workforce needs, and regional and statewide economic priorities.
Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, student-centeredness, and academic excellence.
Promote excellence in teaching, scholarship, service, and creative activity.
Advance initiatives that strengthen academic quality, student engagement, experiential learning, and career-connected education.
Support and strengthen a culture of shared governance in partnership with the Faculty Senate and university leadership.
Lead strategic recruitment, retention, development, and support of high-quality faculty talent across academic disciplines.
Foster a positive academic culture that values innovation, collaboration, mentorship, professional growth, and student-centered teaching.
Oversee faculty evaluation, promotion, tenure, and professional development processes.
Supervise academic deans and directors and support effective leadership development throughout Academic Affairs.
Lead and support initiatives that strengthen faculty excellence in both face-to-face and online learning environments.
Provide strategic leadership and support for the university's Engaged Teaching and Learning units, advancing innovation in instruction, faculty development, student support, and evidence-based teaching practices.
Strategically oversee and expand Distance Learning operations and online degree programs to support continued enrollment growth, student access, and academic quality.
Ensure excellence and consistency in online course design, instructional delivery, student engagement, and academic support services.
Support the continued growth and national competitiveness of LSUA's online programs and alternative instructional models.
Promote the integration of emerging technologies and innovative instructional practices that enhance teaching effectiveness and student success.
Lead initiatives that improve student retention, progression, completion, and career readiness.
Support student-centered academic policies and practices that enhance access and success for diverse student populations.
Promote high-impact learning experiences, experiential education, undergraduate research, internships, and career-connected learning.
Collaborate across divisions to support holistic student success and engagement.
Support initiatives that prepare graduates for meaningful careers, leadership, and lifelong learning.
Lead university-wide assessment, accreditation, and institutional effectiveness efforts.
Direct and support all academic accreditation activities, including compliance with SACSCOC standards and reporting requirements.
Ensure continuous improvement processes are embedded across academic programs and support units.
Lead academic program review processes and support data-informed decision-making throughout Academic Affairs.
Ensure compliance with LSU System policies, Board of Regents expectations, and state and federal regulations.
Promote a culture of accountability, assessment, and evidence-based planning.
Partner with university leadership to support strategic enrollment growth initiatives.
Advance innovative online and hybrid learning opportunities that increase access and support student success.
Support partnerships with business, industry, military, healthcare, education, and community organizations.
Promote academic pathways and workforce-aligned programs that respond to regional and statewide economic priorities.
Support entrepreneurial and forward-thinking initiatives that strengthen the university's relevance and impact.
Provide oversight for Academic Affairs budgeting, resource allocation, and operational planning.
Ensure responsible stewardship of university resources.
Collaborate with university leadership on long-range planning, institutional priorities, and fundraising initiatives.
Support operational effectiveness and continuous improvement across Academic Affairs.
Serve as LSUA's lead Chief Academic Officer and primary academic representative to the LSU System, Louisiana Board of Regents, SACSCOC, and other higher education organizations and governance bodies.
Represent the university in statewide academic planning, policy development, and collaborative initiatives.
Serve on the Chancellor's Cabinet and other key institutional leadership groups.
Build and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders, including educational partners, industry leaders, governmental agencies, and community organizations.
Support advocacy efforts that advance the university's mission, academic priorities, and strategic initiatives at the regional and state levels.
