About The Position

The ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services keeps Alberta communities safe and secure, and ensures our province is prepared for and resilient to the impacts of disasters. The ministry works alongside partners in law enforcement, justice, health and social services and other community and Indigenous partners as a part of the justice and public safety continuum to support the unique needs of Albertans while ensuring the sustainability and resilience of the system. The Human Trafficking Advisor, reporting to the Manager Anti-Human Trafficking Initiatives, supports the implementation of the Human Trafficking Task Force recommendations and the ongoing work of the Alberta Centre to End Trafficking in Persons (the AC). The advisor works closely with other staff in the branch, other divisions, ministries, cross-governmental and external stakeholders. The role requires strategic thinking, collaboration, and engagement with various stakeholders to achieve outcomes. The advisor supports high-level decision-making on multiple projects and must be self-motivated, with strong judgment, interpretive, and communication skills, and the ability to adapt in a dynamic environment.

Requirements

  • University degree in Law, Policy, Political Science, Business, Public Administration or any other related field with 4 years of related experience.
  • Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: § 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or § 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

Nice To Haves

  • Research experience with the ability to consolidate large, and diverse amounts of complex information, including data analysis.
  • Experience with information management systems (e.g. ARTS, PowerBI)
  • Sound understanding of the ministry and Government of Alberta operations, priorities and strong political acumen.
  • Experience developing decision documents such as briefing notes.
  • Project management experience
  • Familiarity with the human trafficking sector and relevant legislation.

Responsibilities

  • Providing research, policy analysis, coordination, and support for strategic policy and intergovernmental priorities, ensuring alignment with government priorities.
  • Supporting the implementation of strategic initiatives and projects to address human trafficking, including the analysis and presentation of data, and assisting with legislative reviews.
  • Managing the Combatting Trafficking in Persons grant program with support from other program staff, the Manager, and the AC.
  • Managing files and stakeholders independently while seeking direction from the Manager as needed.
  • Supporting federal, provincial, and territorial committees by preparing briefing materials and information.
  • Supporting the Human Trafficking Cross Ministry Working Group and maintaining the human trafficking awareness e-Learning course.
