About The Position

We are currently in search of a Prototype Builder / Build Technician (Temporary Contract) to join our Research and Development department of the Marquardt Group in our location Rochester Hills (USA). The Prototype Builder / Build Technician supports our prototype build team in assembling and evaluating automotive switch assemblies. These may include steering-wheel switches, seat position switches, window switches, overhead counsel, HVAC control units and auxiliary switch banks. You’ll work with engineering and cross-functional teams to build prototype units, flash software, conduct functional checks, package assemblies, and document build processes and issues. Because prototypes evolve as designs mature, the work will involve adapting to changing instructions, identifying deviations, and capturing clear feedback that helps move designs toward production readiness.

Requirements

  • Preferred hands-on experience in a technician, prototype-build, electronics-assembly, manufacturing, or similar role.
  • Comfort working with small components, hand tools, and detailed assembly tasks
  • Ability to follow technical instructions and ask questions when requirements are unclear
  • Careful attention to detail when assembling parts, performing checks, and documenting results
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic computer skills for entering build notes, test results, and other records
  • A reliable, organized, and adaptable approach in a hands-on environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble prototype automotive switch units and related components using drawings, work instructions, samples, and engineering direction
  • Support builds of steering-wheel, seat, window, auxiliary, and other switch assemblies
  • Flash or load software onto assemblies using approved tools and procedures
  • Perform functional checks and basic testing; record results and report unexpected behavior
  • Document assembly steps, process observations, deviations, rework, and build outcomes
  • Identify and communicate fit, function, workmanship, and process issues to engineering.
  • Work with evolving designs and instructions, helping clarify build requirements as prototype maturity changes
  • Label, protect, and package completed assemblies for internal evaluation, shipment, or customer review
  • Maintain an organized, safe work area and care for tools, equipment, and prototype materials
  • Follow applicable handling, quality, safety, and configuration-control procedures
  • Collaborate with engineering, quality, manufacturing, and program teams to support build schedules and resolve issues.

Benefits

  • Support and resources to continue learning and training
  • Onsite gym
  • Supplier discounts on OEMs
