The Proton Radiation Therapist performs proton therapy procedures and is responsible for patient preparation, immobilization, alignment, image-guidance interpretation, beam delivery, dose calculations, and routine checks on treatment equipment and simulators. The therapist must work efficiently and with heightened vigilance and accuracy, review x-ray images and report discrepancies to the clinical team, and understand proton therapy principles and the proton treatment machine. The role includes CT simulations and QACTs appropriate for proton treatment and dose assessment, patient scheduling and documentation, quality control, and education of students and trainees. The position works under the direct supervision of the Clinical Operations Director, five days a week. The center's single proton unit may experience downtime, so treatment days may be extended or rescheduled to ensure patients are treated. The position is subject to overtime, photon cross coverage, and callback as required. On-site training may be provided upon hire.
