Protocol Engineering Lead

Cielo Projects•New York, NY
•$175,000 - $230,000

About The Position

This role is the other half of smart contract development, focusing on keeping them running in production. The Clearing House has selected Quant to power its On-Chain Money Initiative, which involves a permissioned EVM rollup on the OP Stack moving into production for an expected launch in the first half of 2027. The Protocol Engineering Lead will own the smart-contract release train, external audits for every release, and manage the differences between the project's codebase and the upstream Optimism codebase. This role also requires explaining the chain's unexpected behavior to non-protocol engineers.

Requirements

  • Deep Solidity and EVM experience, on contracts that held real value and went through external audit.
  • Real understanding of rollup architecture, ideally the OP Stack (mechanics rather than vocabulary).
  • Experience maintaining a fork of a large upstream codebase and understanding the long-term costs.
  • Ability to explain chain behavior to reliability engineers, security engineers, and banks.

Nice To Haves

  • Permissioned or enterprise EVM deployments.
  • Experience with settlement, payments, or tokenization rather than consumer applications.
  • Public contributions.

Responsibilities

  • Own the smart-contract release train.
  • Manage external audits on every release.
  • Manage the project's diff against upstream Optimism (what is taken, held, and diverged on purpose).
  • Explain chain behavior to reliability engineers, security engineers, and eventually to a bank.
