About The Position

Green Mountain Power is seeking a skilled Protection & Control Engineer to innovate new solutions for GMP transmission and distribution substations and distribution lines to improve safety, reliability, power quality and sustainability while adhering to industry standards and evolving best practices. This role is an important part of the Engineering team and requires a broad set of detail-orientated technical skills, the desire to continually evolve to support new initiatives for customers, and strong communication skills to build trusting and effective relationships with teammates in Engineering and Operations.

Requirements

  • Experience in Protection & Control, steering multiple initiatives while delivering high quality results.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience working on utility relay control systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent utility experience.
  • The desire to take on new challenges and work through unknowns.
  • Ability to develop and nurture successful working relationships.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills and the ability to clearly convey complicated ideas with stakeholders inside and outside the company.
  • Ability to work independently to best serve customers in a dynamic organization with changing deadlines and priorities.
  • A strong interest in technology and the desire to learn and leverage technical solutions to improve communication, analysis, and make workflows more effective.

Responsibilities

  • Work with safety as a priority and customer service as your focus.
  • Conduct protection studies utilizing Aspen, Cyme and other tools to create, review and issue protective relay settings and setting basis for transmission and distribution lines, substations, and generation facilities.
  • Research and apply the latest P&C strategies while adhering to industry standards and updating setting basis documentation to current practices.
  • Analyze system disturbances and maintain system short circuit models to ensure P&C systems operate as designed and recommend / implement changes if necessary.
  • Develop, review and maintain testing and commissioning documents.
  • Utilize CAD (Microstation) software to assist in the development and maintenance of P&C system drawings and relay switchgear specifications.
  • Review the development of Operational Oneline Diagrams, commissioning guides.
  • Lead small and large project scoping and assist in project estimations.
  • Provide support during storm conditions as all work to restore power for customers, which can involve working longer hours.
