About The Position

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company focused on rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft. The Propulsion Test Engineering Intern will gain hands-on experience with high-performance propulsion systems, supporting engine and system-level testing. This role involves working closely with engineers and technicians to set up test campaigns, monitor data, and troubleshoot issues, contributing directly to Hermeus’ hypersonic development efforts. The internship is approximately 16 weeks, running from January to April.

Requirements

Currently enrolled in a STEM program at an accredited college or university (undergraduate student in your third or fourth year of study, or enrolled in a Master's or Ph.D. program).
Strong interest in propulsion systems and testing.
Strong understanding of engineering first principles.
Demonstrated ability to work within cross-functional teams.
Enthusiasm for aviation and Hermeus's mission.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
GPA of 3.0 or above.
Must be a U.S. person as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.62 or otherwise eligible for deemed export licensing.

Nice To Haves

Practical experience designing, building, and testing vehicles through internships, studies or projects.

Responsibilities

Assist in designing, setting up, and operating test stands, learning the fundamentals of propulsion system testing.
Instrument test setups, monitor test conditions, and analyze performance data to contribute to system improvements and troubleshooting.
Partner with engineers and technicians to refine test processes, enhance safety procedures, and develop a deeper understanding of propulsion systems in a real-world testing environment.
