Propulsion Test Engineer I/II

Agile Space Industries, Inc.Tulsa, OK
Hybrid

About The Position

Join a select group of Propulsion Test Engineers chosen to help build Agile’s Tulsa Space Test Center (STC) from the ground up. The STC Launch Team is a highly selective, hands-on development program designed to accelerate the next generation of propulsion test engineers. You will begin with immersive training in Durango, Colorado, working directly on live propulsion systems and test infrastructure. Team members are hired as full time employees from day one and transition into elite Founding Team roles onsite in Tulsa, Oklahoma upon completion of training. This is not a rotational or observation program. You will be building, solving, and contributing in real time. This is not a standard entry level role. It is a competitive development path designed to take high potential engineers from hands-on contributors to certified test operators and test conductors responsible for executing propulsion hot fire campaigns. In your first 12 months, you will temporarily move to Durango, CO for hands-on training on active test stands, then return to Tulsa to help build, commission, and operate the facility, ultimately leading first hot fire campaigns. This role builds the people who run the stand.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or related engineering field.
  • 0–5 years of experience.
  • Willingness to relocate to Durango for training and Tulsa for permanent assignment.
  • Strong interest in hands-on hardware and test operations.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding and hazardous environments.
  • Ability to work extended hours during test campaigns.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with propulsion systems or fluid system testing.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience working with high-pressure or hazardous systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support preparation and execution of hypergolic propulsion system tests including test stand configuration, hardware installation, and pre-test checkouts.
  • Operate and support high-altitude simulation test stands, including vacuum/altitude systems, diffuser operation, and system regulation during live test campaigns.
  • Execute test operations involving hazardous hypergolic propellants (e.g., MMH&HPH/MON), including propellant loading, conditioning, transfer, and recovery in accordance with established safety protocols.
  • Assist in development and execution of test procedures, test plans, and operational documentation for both steady-state and transient/pulsed test profiles.
  • Operate propulsion test stands and supporting fluid systems including high-pressure gas systems, pressurization systems, and propellant feed systems.
  • Collect, process, and analyze test data using instrumentation and data acquisition systems, with focus on both steady-state performance and high-frequency dynamic data.
  • Troubleshoot test anomalies in real time and support root cause investigations across propulsion hardware, facility systems, and instrumentation.
  • Work closely with propulsion engineers, technicians, and program managers to achieve test objectives and maintain schedule execution.
  • Support installation, integration, and verification of propulsion hardware and ground support equipment (GSE), including interface definition and system validation.
  • Configure and operate instrumentation including pressure, temperature, flow, and dynamic sensors, ensuring measurement fidelity and proper calibration.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of test activities, procedures, configurations, and results.
  • Support safe operation of propulsion systems including adherence to safety protocols, hazard controls, and use of required PPE and SCBA in hazardous environments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of test operations, facility capability, and test efficiency, including feedback into system design and operational processes.
  • Temporarily relocate to Durango, CO for hands-on training and certification on active propulsion test stands.
  • Support live test operations including propellant handling, system checkout, and execution.
  • Learn test sequencing, abort logic, and anomaly response.
  • Progress through certification path to achieve Agile’s TSUP and TCON certifications.
  • Participate in live test campaigns and formal competency evaluations.
  • Relocate to Tulsa, OK as a permanent and core member of the test team.
  • Support design, fabrication, and integration of new test stands.
  • Work with engineering teams to bring systems to operational readiness.
  • Support commissioning including system bring-up, dry runs, and integrated testing.
  • Serve as a primary operator and technical leader on Tulsa test stands.
  • Execute propulsion test campaigns as TSUP/TCON-qualified personnel.
  • Own procedures, operations, and continuous improvement of the stand.
  • Train future operators and expand team capability.
  • Lead and execute first hot-fire campaigns for the Tulsa facility.
