About The Position

Moog Space and Defense Group is projecting significant growth driven by high levels of U.S. Department of Defense spending and the thirst for human exploration. The Niagara Falls Site supplies rocket engines, propulsion systems, and propellant tanks for a variety of spacecraft, launch vehicle and strategic defense missions. We are looking for a Propulsion Test Technician to set up and conduct hot fire testing of liquid propulsion thrusters (“rocket engines”) and systems. You should have a strong understanding of mechanical and chemical systems as well as experience in a testing environment. The ideal candidate should have a strong background working from drawings and controlled documentation.

Requirements

  • Highschool Diploma or GED and 5 years of related experience
  • Experience in a testing environment where critical test facility parameters are monitored closely.
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and vacuum systems.
  • Ability to read and understand assembly drawings and controlled documentation.
  • Must be able to work directly with other test technicians and test engineers with minimal supervision.
  • Working knowledge of fluid components such as valves, regulators, or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of instrumentation such as pressure transducers, load cells, flow meters, and temperature sensors, or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment, including a full facepiece respirator.
  • This position requires a full physical which includes bloodwork, Pulmonary Function testing, and fit test.
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. DoD Secret Security Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, set up, and execute thruster and propulsion system test operations, working around the test cell.
  • Fabricate, operate, maintain, and repair high-pressure gas and liquid systems.
  • Clean, repair, calibrate, and operate gauges, transducers, flow meters, load cells and LVDT tanks.
  • Operate and troubleshoot thruster test vacuum systems, including mechanical pumping system and steam ejector system.
  • Ensure adherence to safety and environmental procedures and protocols.
  • Position requires use of personal protective equipment where the possibility of mechanical or chemical processes exposures may occur.
