About The Position

United Launch Alliance is seeking a Propulsion Systems Design Engineer 3 to join its Vulcan Centaur development team. This engineering function provides design, systems integration, subcontract management, product technical support, and anomaly resolution for propulsion fluid systems, including cryogenic and non-cryogenic systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics. The engineer develops subsystem and component designs and requirements to satisfy overall propulsion system requirements; integrates systems and performs system-level trade studies; and creates engineering drawings, changes, assembly requirements, and testing requirements. The role supports suppliers, factory operations, and the launch site to meet production schedules, resolve anomalies, and streamline operations. It also involves causal analysis and corrective actions, reviewing as-built hardware and associated software and product test data to certify compliance and flight readiness, and developing design improvements that reduce cost and risk or improve vehicle performance. The role is based in Denver, Colorado, with 10% travel. Relocation may be available. A bachelor's degree and at least four years of related work experience are required. The position requires U.S. person status under ITAR. The listed salary range is $104,087–$173,479, with eligible employees potentially receiving a discretionary annual bonus.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • At least four years of related work experience.
  • Experience with mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or fluid systems design, analysis, integration, or testing.
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics, structural analysis, and mechanical system design principles.
  • Experience developing engineering drawings, specifications, or technical documentation.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues and supporting root cause and corrective action investigations.
  • Ability to interpret engineering requirements and verify system or component compliance through analysis, inspection, or testing.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, suppliers, testing, or operations organizations.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. person as defined by ITAR.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience using agile processes in a development program environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop subsystem and component designs and requirements that satisfy overall propulsion system requirements.
  • Perform system integration and system-level trade studies to optimize designs for manufacturing, producibility, and performance.
  • Generate engineering drawings or changes, as well as assembly and testing requirements.
  • Support suppliers, factory operations, and the launch site to meet production schedules, resolve anomalies, and improve operational efficiency.
  • Perform causal analysis and develop effective resolutions and corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Review as-built hardware and associated software, along with product test data, to certify that the final product configuration and performance meet requirements and are ready for test or flight.
  • Develop design improvements that reduce cost and risk or improve vehicle performance.

Benefits

  • 401(k) match plus an additional employer contribution
  • Discretionary annual incentive bonus for eligible employees
  • Generous paid time off
